With WoodBlock House, dRMM creates both a home and a workplace for artist Richard Woods and his family.
The living spaces of Woods’ London home are formed by two stacked south-facing boxes, whose exterior cladding features the artist’s signature printing technique. The colourful impression reappears throughout the interior, adding a touch of playfulness.
Materials are limited to high-quality glass and timber, the latter of which is engineered in keeping with ’s commitment to sustainability. Woods’ workshop is attached to an open garden on the ground floor. Its location ensures the printing studio is adequately ventilated and provides further access to the building. By combining family, work and play, the architects introduce a lively atmosphere to the Hackney home.
