When asked to design a weekend home for a young family in northern Sjælland, Denmark, pushed the boundaries of a traditional Danish vacation home, using a five-winged spatial arrangement to full effect.
The five ‘fingers’, each like a miniature cabin, fan out as if a hand is spreading its digits over the site. The configuration allows for a variety of views, light effects and outdoor areas, while also giving the family the flexibility it will need as the children grow.
Each family member can seek privacy in his or her ‘cabin’, yet the star-shaped central space unites the wings. Even in this shared space, though, secluded nooks can still be found.
