Just the thought of a single place with seven stories of shopping will make even the most seasoned shopper’s heart flutter. In the centre of Moscow on the historical site of the Central Flower Market, a contemporary building designed by wraps 36,000sqm of retail space with glass and concrete in the form of a mountain. Welcoming patrons, a dramatic, vertical garden soars five levels upwards within the entrance atrium. Dimpled, mirror-finish stainless steel wraps each successive floor, reflecting the continuous wall of greenery across the void.
The interior design scheme by acknowledges the mountain reference with a colour palette based on minerals, guiding clientele through striated layers of jet, silver, zinc, steel and then gold. Youth fashion from international and local Russian designers is displayed within a landscape of black ceilings and walls with polished concrete floors, additionally giving an urban feel punctuated with vibrant bursts of yellow. Mark Billington explains for the majority of spaces beyond this edgy area illuminated with angled cathode light batons, 'there’s a refined but neutral elegance which allows the brands to sit as if they are within a gallery.’
The atmosphere changes across the interior with diverse themes, including the House of Gold’s mannequins coated in the luxurious metal and the Wardrobe’s vintage, domestic elements. The Loft sports minimalist displays and the Art Gallery is dotted with large-scale illustrations. Accessories and hats are displayed on a wall comprised of protruding white hands.
The journey culminates with a cloud-themed restaurant on the top two floors completed by , literally concluding the heavenly experience. Founder of the store's operation, Boris Kuzinez believes that ‘every great city needs its own iconic department store that embodies the spirit of its people…Tsvetnoy is that store!’
