LDF: Top Ten Installations

Compared to the spread of projects on show for ’s 10th anniversary, this year was a quieter affair. The presented some food for thought and marked out exhibition zones with some interesting bespoke projects too.

1 28.280 by at the V&A
280 glass pendants from Omer Arbel’s 28 series for spilled down dramatically to greet visitors through the entrance of the V&A museum.

2 Worldscape by at 100% Design
Atmos designed this incredible contoured dinner table for 80 guests for feasts at the 2012 Olympic Games. We found it in the international pavilions hub at 100% Design.

3 The Dinner Party by at the V&A
The Dutch duo laid a table in the Norfolk House Music Room at the V&A. Like the scene of an interrupted dinner party, parts of their collection were interspersed with cutlery, decorations and stylised food.

4 The Conductor by at
An electrifying jumble of wires, switches, lights and metal plates with the potential for interaction.

5 Lightfalls by for
The intimate room of a historic artist’s studio was used to display Lightfalls, an array of lighting by Todd Bracher that makes use of reflective film to bounce light from a single LED over large surfaces.

6 Off Cut at Republic of
and the Bartlett Research Fund were given free reign with offcuts of Fritz Hansen leather. Their installation puts them to use as a lightweight structure.

7 The Wind Portal by at the V&A
Visitors to the V&A will have heard Wind Portal before setting eyes on it. El Zein’s installation turned an arched gateway into a grid of 5,000 paper windmills that turned in the breeze with a gentle noise.

8 Endless Stair by for
More than just a spectacle aimed at the design crowd, dRMM’s Endless Stair – based at the Tate Modern – triumphed in getting regular Londoners interested in design and structure too.

9 Grado by at
The new Grado pieces that Gilad debuted in Milan made their way to London in the form of an intriguing installation at the Shaftesbury Avenue showroom.

10 Paper Space by and Maria Fulford at 100% Design
1,500 metres of looping paper strips made a striking pavilion for the international exhibitors at 100% Design.
