Chapel at Discovery Bay by Danny Cheng

The interior is defined by a rhythm of repeating layers.

On the coastline of Hong Kong’s Discovery Bay, Danny Cheng designed a serene white chapel that draws in views of the scenery and sky. The dramatic interior rises sharply to a high ceiling, which is defined by an rhythm of repeating layers that create visual interest but also hide bulky technical services from the overall view. Cheng says the inspiration for the ceiling came from the ‘honeycomb-like lines’ of the Lamborghini AP700.

White was the obvious choice for the chapel interior, but the beauty here is its consistent use and contrast with the dramatic scenery beyond. A still, shallow pool of water surrounds the chapel, reflecting its image perfectly at night.
