AMSTERDAM – How can spaces mean more for people and their environment? How can they contribute to health and wellbeing, a sense of community, reflect our identity and sustain the planet? During the two-day event on 21 to 22 February 2018, St-W Lab will guide you into uncharted territories of spatial design.
21 February 2018
Start the day with the live judging of the St-W Awards 2018 nominees, when jury members such as India Mahdavi, Jaime Hayon, Richard Hywel Evans, Clive Wilkinson and Uwe R. Brückner decide the winners of the Awards.
Organized in partnership with IBA, the German trade association for the design of work environments, St-W Lab will get visitors up to speed with the global issues that are driving spatial innovation. As self-driving cars and the obsolescence of today’s jobs emerge as sworn realities, what does it mean to live in this high-tech world and what are its consequences on tomorrow? Paul Skinner, creative director at Tellart, will give a talk about the confrontation between technology and the human race. Floriane de Saint Pierre, founder of Floriane de Saint Pierre et Associés, will give insights on what tomorrow holds for creatives in a dynamic world.
Explore the future of architecture and design with the panel discussions bringing together St-W Awards jury members such as Jo Nagasaka, founder of Schemata Architects; Pieter Kool, design strategist and creative director and Mike Hughes, Universal Everything creative director. The illustrious industry leaders will reflect upon the shifts in retail design – how and why to bring the experiential of shows into the store.

22 February 2018
Human-centric design is the hot topic of the day. Stephanie Akkaoui Hughes, founder of Akka Architects, is known for designing spaces that foster creativity collaboration and learning interaction. At St-W Lab, she will discuss how to design the very core of humanity – human interaction. However, sometimes the very notion of human communication can be a bit much in a workspace. Alongside this insightful event, Ben van Berkel, founder of UNStudio, will explore work culture and attempt to answer the question: can we work alone together?
St-W Lab isn’t all talk – Philips Design will dive into the importance of lighting and illumination with a workshop entitled Illuminate Me: How Light Can Personalize Space. Another workshop explores biophilic design and how to make green buildings even greener – given by Oliver Heath, founder of Heath Design Ltd, in partnership with Interface.
St-W Lab is proudly presented by IBA, the German trade association for the design of work environments representing the interests of office and contract furniture, acoustics, light and AV technique manufacturers.
