The shop has an industrial influence, incorporating concrete and oak wood in its façade.

Simple and sleek are key characteristics of the new University Place in New York City.

‘This space references concrete, oak and industrial felt in its design, inspired by the work of German artist Joseph Beuys,’ explains architect Jeremy Barbour of , who designed the shop alongsideCreative Manager Hiroko Shiratori.

The store’s sink was salvaged from the 140-year-old Bethlehem Steel plant in Pennsylvania. The company was responsible for laying foundations of many buildings in modern New York.

This is the second Aesop shop to open in University Place, a historically rich neighbourhood where rallies occurred in the 17th century and 1960s.
